DUKE OF LANCASTER'S REGIMENT
EDM number 1053 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 16/11/2005.
That this House notes the decision taken to name the newly merged North West Regiment the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment; recognises that the new regiment is made up of a merger between the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, the King's Own Royal Border Regiment and the King's Regiment; welcomes the new name as a significant improvement upon the initially proposed King's Lancashire and Border Regiment, which was too unwieldy and did not reflect the true strength of the merged regiment, which rests in Lancashire from where over 90 per cent. of its members are recruited; further welcomes the name as this recognises the Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment as the Queen, who holds the title of Duke of Lancaster; and looks forward to the new regiment serving with honour and distinction in the future.
