Detention Of Dr Kamal Al-Labwani

That this House notes the visits of Dr Kamal al-Labwani to the United Kingdom in September and October; congratulates him on his efforts to stimulate meaningful dialogue on peaceful, democratic reform in Syria and his work to promote human rights there; notes with concern his detention by the Syrian authorities since his return to Damascus on Tuesday 8th November; and urges the government of Syria to publicise any charges against Dr al-Labwani at the earliest opportunity and ensure that he is treated properly in detention, has access to independent legal representation and that any legal proceedings against him conform to accepted standards of justice and due process.
