Conduct Of Liberal Democrat Honourable Members And Members Of The Scottish Parliament
EDM number 998 in 2004-05, proposed by Pete Wishart on 23/03/2005.
That this House notes that it was the failure of the Liberal Democrats to turn out and vote in sufficient numbers in the second reading of the Prevention of Terrorism Bill that saved the Government from certain defeat; further notes that the Liberal Democrat leader, the Chief Whip, the Treasury spokesman and various other frontbench Liberal Democrats could not be bothered to turn up on 28th February; further notes the role of the Liberal Democrats in the Scottish Parliament where they have saved the Executive from defeat on key issues such as closing hospitals, top-up fees for English students and council tax; further notes the failure of the honourable Member for Gordon to vote against whisky strips, a Labour proposal which will have a damaging impact on the economy of the North East of Scotland, which he claims to represent; calls on the honourable Member to sort out his own record and own party before criticising the SNP, the hardest working team of honourable Members; and concludes that voters in Scotland are quickly learning that Liberal Democrat claims to be an opposition at Westminster amount to nothing when they remain joined at the hip with a Labour Government in Scotland.
