British Lions Selection
EDM number 930 in 2004-05, proposed by Jon Owen Jones on 15/03/2005.
That this House compliments the exciting rugby played by several countries during this Six Nations tournament; is confident that Sir Clive Woodward will pick players for this summer's British Lions tour on merit and will ignore the prejudiced and smug article in the Evening Standard on 15th March which calls for an absolute minimum of Welsh players to be selected on the basis that the Welsh game is built on sand, its players are weak, liable to home sickness and should be rejected in any 50/50 decisions; and notes that Wales have only narrowly been beaten by New Zealand during their last two games and Welsh players have proved themselves worthy of the sternest test.
