Security Situation In Iraq
EDM number 79 in 2004-05, proposed by Michael Ancram on 23/11/2004.
That this House notes with concern the security situation in Iraq post-conflict; is concerned that the lack of security has resulted in non-govermental organisations removing staff from Iraq; remembers that on 24th September 2002 the Shadow Foreign Secretary warned the Government that if they were to embark upon war there must be a blueprint with plans and resources so that a democratic, prosperous and renewed Iraq could quickly enter the family of nations and the global economy; regrets that the Government ignored these and other warnings from Her Majesty's Opposition; further regrets that inadequate post-conflict planning has contributed to the deterioration of security in Iraq; has every faith that British troops, as always, will do their best and perform admirably despite political dithering; and calls for an urgent independent judicial inquiry into the mishandling of post-conflict reconstruction in Iraq.
