Chewing Gum Nuisance
EDM number 785 in 2004-05, proposed by Tony Banks on 24/02/2005.
That this House draws attention to the long-standing campaign in and outside Parliament for action to deal with the problem caused by the discarding of chewing gum in public places; welcomes the recent demand by representatives from London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast for a levy on gum to assist local authorities with clearing up; reminds chewing gum users that spitting out gum in public places is disgusting, odious, anti-social and unhygienic; and believes gum-chewing football managers could set an example by wrapping their used gum rather than spitting it out during prime time television broadcasting of matches.
