Spanish Referendum On The Eu Constitution

EDM number 757 in 2004-05, proposed by Keith Vaz on 22/02/2005.

That this House welcomes the outcome of the referendum in Spain on the weekend of 19th and 20th February; congratulates the Spaniards, who with an overwhelming majority of 77 per cent. said yes to the treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe; notes that this was the first in a series of European polls on the treaty and that other European countries now have a tough act to follow; asks the Government for a clear timetable for the referendum to match the deadline for ratification in November 2006; and is convinced that the results in Spain will have a positive impact in referendums throughout the EU member states in the coming months.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
