Hydrogen Economy In Wales
EDM number 753 in 2004-05, proposed by Simon Thomas on 22/02/2005.
That this House welcomes the study undertaken by the University of Glamorgan into the potential for hydrogen development in Wales; notes that the report concluded that Wales could use natural energy resources to meet all its energy needs, thus ending dependency on coal, oil and gas; further notes that Wales already has a cluster of seven active hydrogen production plants; believes that hydrogen, if produced sustainably, can deliver a real reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other green house gases and pollutants and can thereby form the basis of a low carbon economy; believes that the use of hydrogen technology could overcome some difficulties in security of supply associated with renewable energy; and urges the Government, National Assembly of Wales and development agencies to ensure that sufficient research and support is available to bring this exciting technology to market.
