Mayor Of London And The Evening Standard
EDM number 744 in 2004-05, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 22/02/2005.
That this House notes that it is 10 days since Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, made insulting remarks to an Evening Standard journalist; believes that, no matter how long or deep his dispute with Associated Newspapers is, that dispute cannot justify or excuse his language; recognises the offence felt by and concern of the Jewish community at the words he used; calls upon the Mayor to apologise to the Jewish community and the reporter without further delay; and urges him to avoid such unnecessary controversy in the future and to pursue actively the rebuilding of his damaged relationship with London's Jewish community.
