Stormont Voluntary Coalition
EDM number 738 in 2004-05, proposed by David Burnside on 21/02/2005.
That this House believes the objective of an inclusive Executive at Stormont, whilst being admirable and deserving of widespread support, is now unobtainable because of the Republican movement's refusal to give up crime and terrorism making Sinn Fein unacceptable as a democratic partner in Government; and calls on the Government to amend the laws replacing the d'Hondt system of appointing an Executive with a collective Cabinet voluntary coalition system with cross-community support, allowing the two unionist parties, the SDLP and the Alliance Party, to form an Executive at Stormont if they so wish.
This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
