British Troop Deployment To Iraq
EDM number 606 in 2004-05, proposed by Glenda Jackson on 27/01/2005.
That this House calls upon the Prime Minister to explain why, when asked by the Right honourable Member for Ross, Skye and Inverness West on 19th January, whether the Ministry of Defence planned to send more troops to Iraq to plug any gaps left by the withdrawal of Dutch, Czech and Portuguese troops,he replied 'No, there are no plans to expand the British contribution', (Official Report, column 805) and that he was 'not aware of any request for additional troops', in light of the apparently contradictory announcement on 27th January by the Secretary of State for Defence that 220 additional military personnel would be deployed to Iraq to relieve the Dutch forces in Al Muthanna province when they withdraw in March.
This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
