Conduct Of The Deputy Prime Minister
EDM number 581 in 2004-05, proposed by Bob Spink on 25/01/2005.
That this House regrets the comments made by the Deputy Prime Minister in referring to the people of the South East as nimbys (24th January, Official Report, column 29); believes that people have a right to hold a view on the level of development in their community and to request appropriate infrastructure to support any new building and that people who seek to protect their community and environment from over-development are not necessarily nimbys; and calls on the Deputy Prime Minister to listen more carefully to the people of the South East, to accept that sometimes they know better than him what is right for their community, to withdraw his intemperate jibe against the people of the South East and to apologise.
