Harrogate Fire Service Cuts

EDM number 569 in 2004-05, proposed by Phil Willis on 20/01/2005.

That this House recognises the excellent standards of fire and rescue services provided by the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority to the population of Harrogate, its visitors and local businesses; acknowledges that as a result of the enormous efforts of firefighters and their colleagues, the number of serious incidents has declined; regrets that the reward for excellence may result in the downgrading of night services in Harrogate and the surrounding area; believes that proposals to remove a wholetime shift appliance and replace it with one pump crewed by day duties and retained support may increase risk to persons and property; and therefore calls upon the authority not to proceed with these cuts.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
