300th Year Celebrations By Jewish Gibraltarians
EDM number 524 in 2004-05, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 17/01/2005.
That this House recognises the importance of Jewish culture in Gibraltar and applauds the celebrations to mark 300 years of British rule on the Rock; further recognises that the traditional British sense of fair play and democracy of Gibraltarians has allowed the Jewish community to thrive and prosper over the centuries and that in turn, their strong respect for tradition and tolerance has helped form a unified British Gibraltarian community; thanks the Jewish community in Gibraltar for their rousing rendition of God Save the Queen in Hebrew to mark the end of their Shabbat services; and urges the Government to recognise that these gestures and celebrations further highlight the desire for all Gibraltarians to remain, as they always have been, British.
