First Transpennine Express And Car Parking Charges
EDM number 450 in 2004-05, proposed by John Grogan on 10/01/2005.
That this House expresses dismay at the decision of First Transpennine Express in association with National Car Parks to impose without consultation car parking charges for rail season ticket holders of between ú321.60 and ú402 per annum at train stations across the North; notes that previously under the management of Arriva Trains car parking had been free at many of these stations for monthly and annual season ticket holders; acknowledges that these new car parking charges will increase the cost of commuting by up to one-third for many hard pressed commuters, acting as a deterrent for rail travel and increasing congestion on the roads; further notes that many car parks in the hands of the other rail operator in the North of England, Northern Rail, will remain free; and calls upon First Transpennine Express to suspend these car parking charge increases and to meet rail passenger groups to discuss a way forward.
