Abolition Of The Over Thirty Months Scheme
EDM number 43 in 2004-05, proposed by James Paice on 23/11/2004.
That this House recognises the net saving of ú300 million that the ending of the Over-Thirty Months Scheme would bring; acknowledges the potential increase in returns to British farmers that would also occur; notes the advice from the Food Standards Agency that the scheme can be ended; further notes the view of the European Commission that it will not adjust the date-based export scheme until the UK beef market is normalised; and calls on the Government to commence immediately the phased introduction of older animals to the market by unwinding the scheme.
