Environmental Effect Of Marine Fisheries

EDM number 325 in 2004-05, proposed by Desmond Turner on 07/12/2004.

That this House welcomes the publication by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution of its report on the environmental effects of marine fisheries; accepts its central finding that fish populations in the North East Atlantic and North Sea are on the point of collapse unless protective measures are taken and the size of EU fleets operating in British waters and the use of destructive industrial fishing methods are reduced; and requests the Government to take action on the recommendations of the report in order to save our marine environment and fish stocks and permit the retention of a sustainable fishing industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
