CITIZEN'S PENSION
EDM number 318 in 2004-05, proposed by Mike Weir on 07/12/2004.
That this House welcomes the report from the National Association of Pension Funds in support of the principle of the Citizen's Pension; believes that the current system of pension credit is failing many of our pensioners and is both bureaucratic and expensive to deliver; notes that the present system fails to tackle the problem of women pensioners; many of whom have inadequate contributions due to an interrupted work history brought about by family commitments; believes that the Citizen's Pension would provide a decent pension for all and provide a secure foundation for the future; and calls upon the Government to take action to introduce such a pension.
