Welfare Of Animals

EDM number 136 in 2004-05, proposed by Mike Hancock on 23/11/2004.

That this House believes that all animals should be treated as sentient beings and is concerned that unacceptable practices where animals are treated as objects still continue; further believes that all animals, at whatever stage of evolution, deserve protection and recognition; welcomes New Zealand's decision to introduce a bill to grant apes certain basic rights; and calls upon the Government to improve the welfare and status of all animals in the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
