BBC Resources, The Royal Wedding And The Grand National

That this House notes that the BBC is now covering the Royal Wedding, the Grand National and Premiership football matches for Match of the Day on Saturday 9th April; congratulates all the technical staff involved in bringing all these events to the nation which will involve 40 cameras at Windsor alone and numerous outside broadcasting units around the country; further notes that such a rapid response by the BBC at short notice, given the change in date of the Royal Wedding, is only possible because of the professionalism and public service commitment of BBC staff who have benefited from top quality training; and urges Mr Michael Grade and his fellow governors carefully to examine the implications for the BBC being able to rise to such challenges in the future if BBC Resources is privatised as BBC management is proposing.
