Gift Aid
EDM number 940 in 2003-04, proposed by John Barrett on 30/03/2004.
That this House welcomes the pledge by the Chancellor in the Budget to consult closely with heritage and conservation charities over the proposal to end Gift Aid claims on day memberships; recognises that these proposals, if implemented, will cost many important charities valuable income, putting into jeopardy much of their work and in some cases, their ability to continue; acknowledges that a number of charities have invested in IT equipment to comply with the guidance issued by the Inland Revenue to help claim gift aid on day memberships; now looks forward to the consultation process being both thorough and responsive; and sees this process as an opportunity to show the Government the merits of retaining the ability of charities to claim Gift Aid on day memberships.
