Post Office Closures, Liverpool West Derby
EDM number 925 in 2003-04, proposed by Robert N Wareing on 29/03/2004.
That this House deplores the decision to close the Town Row, Stoneycroft, and Lower Breck Road post offices in the Liverpool, West Derby constituency and the proposal to close the one at Lark Hill; this despite the fact that, in a letter of 16th March to the honourable Member for Liverpool, West Derby, the Post Office admitted that the common view of those consulted was that the closure of these branches would seriously affect the elderly, those with disabilities and those with children, that customers had pointed to the high level of elderly residents, and that the walking distance to alternative branches would cause real problems to the less mobile, many of whom had no access to a car and would find the cost of travel a major obstacle; believes that the Post Office, as a public service, should give higher priority to the views of its consumers; and calls on the Post Office to review seriously its proposals with a view to providing a service more acceptable to its customers.
