Adolescent Oncology
EDM number 882 in 2003-04, proposed by Ian Gibson on 23/03/2004.
That this House congratulates Teenage Cancer Trust on creating the world's first Professorial Chair of Adolescent Cancer Medicine and for raising awareness of teenage and young adult cancer sufferers, who are an otherwise neglected group of patients; notes that the UK is now the world leader in the discipline of adolescent oncology, but despite this little progress has been made in survival rates for certain types of cancers common in the adolescent years; notes with concern the drastically small number of teenagers and young adults entered into clinical trials and the very low levels of research into adolescent oncology; and urges the Government to make a commitment to work in partnership to develop further teenage cancer trust units and obliging trusts to enter into discussions with Teenage Cancer Trust to provide each teenager in the UK with a chance to be treated in appropriate surroundings.
