Megan Mccreery And The Royal Navy
EDM number 875 in 2003-04, proposed by Harry Barnes on 22/03/2004.
That this House deplores the decision by the Defence Vetting Agency, as reported by The Guardian on 15th March, to refuse security clearance to Megan McCreery so that she can fulfil her life ambition and join the Royal Navy, like many of her relatives before her; notes that her father is serving a prison sentence for the attempted murder of a Loyalist paramilitary member who murdered his brother and that Megan and her family are living in exile in England following a brutal Loyalist attack on her own brother which was meant to kill him in revenge, but failed; is mystified by this refusal to grant security clearance to a young woman who is herself a victim of terrorism; and urges the Government to reverse this decision and allow Megan to join the Royal Navy.
