Terrestrial Television Coverage Of England V West Indies Cricket Tour
EDM number 846 in 2003-04, proposed by John Grogan on 16/03/2004.
That this House congratulates the England cricket team on its resounding victory over the West Indies and in particular commends the bowling of Stephen Harmison an the captaincy of Michael Vaughan; regrets the lack of any terrestrial television highlights of this outstanding sporting occasion; calls on the BBC and Channel 4 to recognise that they have some public service obligations to cricket-lovers, young and old, and encourages them even at this stage to bid for some highlights coverage; and urges the England and Wales Cricket Board, when they are next negotiating the contract for domestic tests, to strike a deal with a terrestrial broadcaster who is committed to some all-year-round coverage of the game.
