Post Office Closures In Brent

EDM number 814 in 2003-04, proposed by Sarah Teather on 11/03/2004.

That this House notes that Post Office Ltd ended in early March its consultation on the closure of seven post offices in the London Borough of Brent; recognises the hundreds of objections by local people against the proposed closures; further notes with concern that those most vulnerable in Brent, the elderly and disabled, will be hit hardest by the proposed closures; applauds the 'Save our Seven' campaign organised by North West London Newspapers that has highlighted the plight of the seven post offices under threat of closures and that has also secured the support of many local residents; notes that the Prime Minister has previously stated that post offices are a vital part of the fabric of the country; expresses concern that despite these sentiments 3,000 post offices are expected to close under the Labour Government; and expresses further concern that the seven post offices in Brent will go towards making up that total.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
