WANDSWORTH COUNCIL'S COUNCIL TAX
EDM number 761 in 2003-04, proposed by Tom Cox on 03/03/2004.
That this House notes that the London Borough of Wandsworth has very substantial reserve funds and is proposing cuts totalling half a million pounds in its funding to long-established local organisations within the Borough of Wandsworth that provide day-to-day support to many residents living within the Borough of Wandsworth; further notes that these organisations include the Wandsworth Citizen's Advice Bureau, day centres for the elderly, luncheon clubs, the Wandsworth Cancer Support Centre, the Bereavement Service and the Parkinson's Disease Service to name just some of the organisations that will be affected by a reduction in the grant they will receive; further notes that, without such funding from one of the wealthiest councils in the United Kingdom, many of these organisations will be unable to provide the service used by people living within the Borough of Wandsworth; and calls on her Majesty's Government to enter into immediate discussion with Wandsworth Council in an effort to protect funding levels for these organisations whose existence is now threatened and for which funding cuts will have a serious affect on many residents in the Borough.
