Tourism

EDM number 76 in 2003-04, proposed by David Davis on 26/11/2003.

That this House notes that tourism is the fifth biggest industry in England and the largest industry in both Scotland and Wales; recognises that the industry generates around ú74 billion for the British economy and that there are an estimated 2.1 million jobs in tourism in the UK; further notes that the foot and mouth crisis, global terrorism and the war in Iraq has had a negative impact on the tourism industry; is concerned that since 21st May, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport has issued only one press release relating to tourism; and calls upon the Government to offer much greater support to this vital industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
