Taiwan And The World Health Organisation

That this House notes and supports the request of Taiwan to be granted observer status to the World Health Organisation; notes that this request is also supported by the United States, Japan, the European Parliament, the World Medical Association and the British Medical Association; further notes that Taiwan has made substantial achievements in the field of health and that in recent years it has extended humanitarian and medical assistance to many other parts of the world; further notes the commitment made by the Government and people of Taiwan to work within the system of the World Health Organisation for the benefit of humanity; further notes that Her Majesty's Government will consider with our European Union partners any proposal for Taiwanese involvement in the World Health Organisation; and requests that Her Majesty's Government clearly urges at the forthcoming annual World Health Assembly in Geneva, members of the World Heath Organisation to support Taiwan's participation in the sessions and work of its forthcoming annual meeting in Geneva and other meetings of the World Health Organisation in the capacity of observer.
