Prosecution Of Brazilian Labour Inspector

EDM number 707 in 2003-04, proposed by Michael Clapham on 26/02/2004.

That this House is appalled to learn of the prosecution of Labour Inspector Fernanda Giannasi by the Labour Ministry, a corrupt judiciary, asbestos interests and the Brazilian establishment; notes that Inspector Giannasi is being prosecuted in the criminal court for allegedly offending the honour of a former Brazilian Labour Minister; observes that she discovered on 17th February that the judge adjudicating in her case had been arrested, charged with corruption and links to organised crime and imprisoned; and calls on President da Silva and his Government to review the charges against Inspector Giannasi and in the meantime to withdraw the ban that confines her to the Sao Paulo office and allow her to carry out her inspection duties.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
