Pensions (No.4)
EDM number 689 in 2003-04, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 25/02/2004.
That this House notes the number of options open to pensioners for receipt of their pension entitlement; recognises that the ability to have pensions paid directly into bank accounts is welcome for those who want to receive their entitlement in this way but expresses grave concern at the approach used by the Pensions Service who continually advocate direct payment even after a pensioner has requested to receive their pension at the Post Office; further notes that this approach is causing concern amongst post-masters and is damaging to post offices in rural and urban areas as the number of customers decline; and calls on the Department for Work and Pensions to ensure that the Pensions Service respects the wishes of pensioners who still wish to collect their pension from the Post Office and do all it can to support post offices.
