Child Support Agency(no2)
EDM number 67 in 2003-04, proposed by David Willetts on 26/11/2003.
That this House notes the serious allegations recently made in Computer Weekly about the continuing computer problems at the Child Support Agency, which have left approximately a million cases waiting to be transferred to the new scheme; namely, that there are anomalies, inaccuracies or incomplete data in up to 40 per cent; of the records; that up to 14 million items in records need validating, correcting or checking; that the million cases may have to be kept on old computer equipment 'indefinitely', and that 'the CSA is sinking in an administrative and IT quagmire ... and has not told the whole truth to Parliament about the extent of its problems'; deplores the distress, anxiety and financial loss incurred by those parents and children who are waiting for the transfer of old cases to be made; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to set the truth about these claims before the House at the earliest opportunity.
