Self Harm Among Children And Young People
EDM number 669 in 2003-04, proposed by Lynne Jones on 24/02/2004.
That this House welcomes the launch on 30th March of a UK-wide inquiry into self harm among 11 to 25 year-olds, to be carried out jointly by the Mental Health Foundation and the Camelot Foundation; recognises the growing extent of deliberate self harm among children and young people, and current estimates that one in 10 young people - at least two in the average classroom - self harms; further recognises that professionals see only a fraction of the number of children and young people who self harm; hopes that the inquiry will build a proper picture of the extent and nature of self harm and inform appropriate responses; and urges people to respond positively to the inquiry launch and calls for evidence.
