Private Hire Vehicles And Guide Dogs
EDM number 641 in 2003-04, proposed by Rudi Vis on 23/02/2004.
That this House welcomes the Disabled Persons' Transport Advisory Committee best practice guide , 'Making private hire services more accessible to disabled people', which acknowledges the importance of making drivers of taxis and private hire vehicles aware of the needs of blind and partially sighted passengers and their guide dogs; applauds the work being done by The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in educating private hire vehicle operators to this end; welcomes the inclusion of transport and taxis in the amendments to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995; and recognises that vision-impaired people use taxis and private hire vehicles more frequently than their able bodied counterparts because the nearest point of public transport is often inaccessible to them
