PRESIDENT BUSH'S CALL FOR A BAN ON NUCLEAR REPROCESSING;Amdt. line 4:
EDM number 629A1 in 2003-04, proposed by Laurence Robertson on 19/04/2004.
Line 4, leave out from 'purposes' to end and insert, 'but notes that he was only referring 'to any state that does not already possess full-scale, functioning enrichment and reprocessing plants', which the UK already has; recalls the statement by Lord Davies of Oldham in the debate on the Energy Bill, Official Report, 22nd January, column GC415, that "We consider a great deal of the activity of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, particularly at Thorp Reprocessing Plant and Sellafield MOX Plant, to be loss-making" but notes that this was a reference to the tax regime in which the NDA will operate and not a comment on the profitability of those plants; believes that we are at an historic moment, appropriate for nuclear reprocessing at Sellafield to be supported as an internationally recognised fuel fabrication facility; and calls upon the Prime Minister to support President Bush in his appeal to end the proliferation of nuclear weapons technology.'
This is a ammendment to 629.
