Low Pay In The Civil Service
EDM number 530 in 2003-04, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 02/02/2004.
That this House is concerned at the appalling levels of low pay that currently exist within parts of the Civil Service; believes civil servants deliver vital public services across the country, from the furthest lighthouses to the jobcentres in every constituency; notes that the latest Civil Service statistics show that over a third earn less than ú15,000 and almost 15,000 civil servants earn less than ú10,000 a year; and calls on Her Majesty's Government, in the 2004 pay round, to take such steps as are necessary to eradicate the endemic problem of low pay in the Civil Service and to reward fairly our public servants for the vital work they do.
