Pensioner Travel

That this House notes the advantaged enjoyed by pensioners in Wales, London and many cities and metropolitan districts throughout England who enjoy transport on public transport or free bus travel; recognises that many elderly people are totally dependent on public transport and that the costs of this account for a significant portion of their disposable income; estimates that the cost of introducing free pensioner travel on public transport across the United Kingdom would cost in the region of ú300 million; and calls on the Government to provide free public transport for all pensioners during off-peak hours in order to improve the welfare of pensioners.
