Fire Service Modernisation Plans
EDM number 398 in 2003-04, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 12/01/2004.
That this House is most concerned about potentially life-threatening plans to reduce the speed of response by local fire stations, especially to automatic fire alarms, which arise from new local integrated risk management plans; draws attention to a recent AFA incident in Peterborough, where fire authorities believe that the proposed reduced response would almost certainly have led to fatalities; and calls on the Government to suspend modernisation plans that also include the reduction or resiting of specialist equipment and reduction in response to other 999 fire emergencies until proper trials and an independent review have been implemented.
