EDM number 295 in 2003-04, proposed by Paul Flynn on 16/12/2003.

That this House regrets that the average UK family pays ú16 per week in farm tax on subsidies and support; welcomes the news that British farm incomes have soared from 2001-02 to 2002-03 in horticulture by 7 per cent. cattle and sheep, by 120 per cent. pigs and poultry, by 120 per cent. mixed farms, by 148 per cent. and cereals by 203 per cent. and by 90 per cent. in dairy farming from 2000-01 to 2001-02; notes that the subsidies per cow are 16 times more than the average spent per person on education in developing countries and 90 times more than in the least developed countries; and calls for action to rescue British farming from the dependency culture.
