Royal Mail Group Consultation Process On The Future Of Local Post Offices
EDM number 236 in 2003-04, proposed by Richard Burden on 09/12/2003.
That this House believes that the production, by Post Office Ltd, of constituency-based area plans for future local provision of post office services is a welcome part of Royal Mail Group's Urban Reinvention programme but is concerned that Post Office Ltd apparently do not intend to consult with local communities in drawing up those plans but instead intend to draw up the plans in secret, consulting only on individual closure proposals arising from the plan on a branch-by-branch basis; believes that this approach is neither in keeping with the spirit of discussions held between Post Office Ltd and the Trade and Industry Select Committee nor of assurances given by ministers regarding the involvement of local people in the Post Office Reinvention process and confirming that local communities should have the right to comment on the future shape of post office services in their areas before strategic decisions are made concerning those areas; and urges Royal Mail Group to put in place a consultation process which will achieve this.
