Post Office Closures In London Borough Of Sutton

EDM number 1940 in 2003-04, proposed by Tom Brake on 16/11/2004.

That this House condemns the decision by Post Office Ltd to close five sub-port offices at Stafford Road and Croydon Road in Wallington, Angel Hill and Oldfields Road in Sutton and Church Hill Road in North Cheam; shares the concerns of local residents over the uncertain future of branches at the Broadway in Beddington, Stonecot Hill in North Cheam, Station Road in Belmont village and Ewell Road in Cheam Village; recalls with dismay the earlier closure of branches in Westmead Road, Stanley Park Road, Banstead Road and Collingwood Road; notes that Sutton has lost nine sub-post offices in recent months; applauds the work of the Sutton Guardian and PostWatch in helping local residents fight the closure plans; and calls on Post Office Ltd to heed the strong opposition of local residents to post office closures and allow the post office branches at the Broadway in Beddington, London Road at Stonecot Hill, Station Road in Belmont village and Ewell Road in Cheam Village to stay open.
