Licence Fees For Amateur Sport And Recreational Clubs
EDM number 1929 in 2003-04, proposed by Don Foster on 16/11/2004.
That this House notes that the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport disputed the assertion that the new licensing regime would cost amateur sports clubs considerably more in the future than at present and stated she was 'absolutely determined to ensure that when the Bill received Royal Assent it will be welcomed by sports clubs, large and small' (Official Report, 24th March 2003, c53); further notes with deep concern that on the publication of the proposed licensing fees there is widespread outrage among voluntary sport and recreation clubs as expressed by the umbrella body, the Central Council for Physical Recreation; recognises that the Government is currently consulting on the proposed licence fees; and urges the Government to listen to the concerns of all relevant parties to ensure that voluntary sports clubs are not penalised unfairly by these fees.
