EDM number 1924 in 2003-04, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 15/11/2004.
That this House recognises the importance of Palestinian leaders such as Marwan Barghouti, imprisoned in Israel's Bersheba (Birsaba) prison for two and a half years without access to his wife and solicitors, and in isolation; notes that Marwan is the elected representative of the Palestinian Legislative Council and an ambassador for peace, having taken part in the Oslo negotiations and campaigned tirelessly for the implementation of the peace process; notes the continual support for his case provided by the Inter-parliamentary Union to date; calls upon the Government to ensure that the British Ambassador in Israel visit him in prison; requests that a parliamentary delegation from the UK visit him in prison as a fellow parliamentarian; and calls upon the Israeli Government to review his case as a matter of the utmost urgency, with a view to ensuring his release.
