Civil Partnerships
EDM number 1902 in 2003-04, proposed by Frank Field on 10/11/2004.
That this House while welcoming the third reading of the Civil Partnership bill, recognises that marriage for property-less people is a fairly recent practice in human history and was enforced by the Church in the best interests of children; recognises that faithfulness is a virtue which is in the interests of society to see practiced; accepts that if those rewards which were previously exclusive to married couples are shared more genuinely among civil partners, the country must reconsider how couples responsible for nurturing children are extra rewarded; and calls upon all the political parties to open the debate on how best this might be achieved so that proposals are put forward before the people prior to the coming election.
