Result Of North East Assembly Referendum

EDM number 1883 in 2003-04, proposed by Frank Field on 08/11/2004.

That this House notes the Prime Minister's comments that now that the Americans have voted, Europe needs to listen; and believes that now voters in the North East have overwhelmingly rejected the idea of a regional assembly, the Government should respond to voters' wishes by bringing forward proposals for an English parliament which excludes members whose constituences cover devolved parliaments and assemblies from voting on all devolved subjects, together with the establishment of select committees for each of the English regions, thereby making government offices, quangos and other bodies to which the Government has devolved power, in the expectation of establishing regional assemblies, accountable to the House of Commons.
