Assistance For Areas Affected By Higher Fuel Costs
EDM number 1863 in 2003-04, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 02/11/2004.
That this House notes the recent dramatic increase in fuel prices; recognises the additionally adverse circumstances this creates for rural communities in the peripheral areas of the United Kingdom, including much of Northern Ireland and Scotland where goods and produce have to be transported considerable distances; and calls upon the Government to examine whether assistance can be given to ensure communities in these areas do not suffer further disadvantage compared to communities where transport costs are not as significant an overhead.
