Reform Of Devolved Northern Ireland Executive
EDM number 177 in 2003-04, proposed by David Burnside on 02/12/2003.
That this House recognises that the results of the Northern Ireland Assembly elections last week express the clear opposition of the vast majority of the Unionist electorate to reforming an inclusive executive with Sinn Fein whilst they continue to be inextricably linked to a private illegal army, the IRA; and calls for a fundamental reform of the devolved Stormont institution replacing the d'Handt formula with a cross community voluntary coalition between the two Unionist parties, the SDLP and Alliance Party which will allow the devolved Assembly to become operational and exclude Sinn Fein from the executive because of its refusal to stand down the IRA and became a normal political party.
