WHEELCHAIR PASSENGERS TRAVELLING IN GUARD'S VANS ON SOUTHERN TRAINS
EDM number 1740 in 2003-04, proposed by Anne Begg on 14/10/2004.
That this House condemns Southern Trains for continuing to run old slam-door passenger trains and as a consequence forcing wheelchair-using passengers to travel in the guards van with bars on the windows, which is not only an insult to disabled people but an affront to basic human decency; and calls upon Southern Trains to expedite their upgrading of rolling stock and bring an end to this barbaric and outdated practice.
