Marwan Barghouti
EDM number 1683 in 2003-04, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 16/09/2004.
That this House remains appalled at the ongoing wrongful imprisonment in Israel's Beersheba (Birsaba) prison for two and a half years, of Marwan Barghouti, elected representative of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and ambassador for peace, having taken part in the Oslo negotiations and campaigned tirelessly for the implementation of the peace process; notes the continual support for his case provided by the Inter-parliamentary Union to date; calls upon the Government to ensure that British representatives in Israel visit him in prison where he is currently in isolation; requests that a parliamentary delegation from the UK visit him in prison as a fellow parliamentarian; and calls upon the Israeli Government to review his case with a view to ensuring his release.
