Stroke Awareness Week 4th October - 11th October 2004
EDM number 1676 in 2003-04, proposed by Andrew Lansley on 16/09/2004.
That this House congratulates the Stroke Association for organising Stroke Awareness Week, which this year is taking place between 4th and 10th October; notes that the theme for this year's event is 'Eat a rainbow - beat a stroke' and will be encouraging 4 to 11 year olds to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day which will reduce their risk of stroke in later life; is concerned that those requiring stroke care are not able to access dedicated care facilities; and calls on the Government to ensure dedicated stroke units are established in all hospitals as they pledged to do so by April and that such units have adequate capacity to meet demand.
